LA GALAXY SAN DIEGO ANNOUNCES BOYS & GIRLS U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM
LA Galaxy San Diego (LAGSD) is excited to announce the club will be expanding their Academy program in the 2017-2018 season with the recent addition of the Boys U13 and U14 age groups. The expansion into the BU13 and BU14 age groups comes shortly after LAGSD’s girls program was accepted to the Girls’ Development Academy, which will launch this summer.
“We are delighted to have our boys academy status expanded to the U13 and U14 levels,” said LAGSD Boys Director of Coaching, Glenn Malone. “It’s a reflection of the outstanding job coaches Steve Cowell, Paul Ritchie and Louis Hunt have done with our current BU12 Academy program and our commitment to aligning our philosophy with the Academy.”
First accepted into the prestigious Academy program last year at the U12 Boys age group, LAGSD’s Academy program has grown exponentially in the past year.
Between the boys and girls sides the club’s Academy offerings now include:
- U12 (2006) – Head Coach: Paul Ritchie
- U13 (2005) – Head Coach: Steve Cowell
- U14 (2004) – Head Coach: Paul Ritchie
- U14 (2004) – Head Coach: Michael Duggan

- U16/U17 (2002/2001) – Head Coach: Courtney Drummond
- U18/U19 (2000/1999) – Head Coach: Courtney Drummond/Greg LaPorte
“We’ve worked hard to build a staff that buys into our curriculum, philosophy and vision for developing players at all age groups,” said LAGSD Director of Coaching, Michael Duggan. “It’s rewarding to see that commitment to player development recognized by US Soccer and we are excited for all of our players who will get the chance to be a part of this journey.”

About the US Soccer Development Academy

The program was launched in 2007 with the Boys U15-U18 age groups after a comprehensive study of player development nationwide in which US Soccer determined that improving the training environment was the most critical element in developing talent. In 2013, the program was expanded to include the U13/U14 boys, and the U12 Boys were added in 2016. The 2017 season marks the inaugural year of the Girls’ Development Academy, including U14, U15, U16/U17, U18/U19.
