On December 15th, LA Galaxy San Diego’s boys program took a leap forward with the announcement that the club was accepted into the U.S. Soccer Development Academy U12 Boys Program. Today, July 9, 2016, our girls program also took a giant leap forward after receiving the fantastic news that LAGSD has been accepted into the newly formed U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy in which we will participate in the following three combined age groups: U-14/15, U-16/17 and U-18/19.

The Academy program will focus on positively impacting everyday club environments to maximize elite female youth player development. Increasing the training to game ratio, playing fewer but more meaningful games and providing assistance for coaching education and development are just some of the standards and best practices the program will promote.

LAGSD Girls Director, Carl Higham, proudly commented, “I have worked for our club for over 18 years now and to be accepted into the U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy really is a dream come true. It is the product of a great deal of hard work over the years, trying to do the right things. There is still plenty of hard work ahead but I am really looking forward to getting the program started and being able to train some of the best talent around. This news brings a great deal of excitement to our girls and staff within the club. Thank you to all the past and present presidents and board members for always believing in us.”

LAGSD Director of Operations, Michael Duggan, commented, “This is a fantastic day, both for myself and the club. It is total validation for all the hard work that everyone has put in over the years, building one of the best girls’ programs in the country. It is something all of our members should be very proud of. I want to thank everyone who has helped to make this happen from our coaches to our board members. In particular, I want to thank my fellow directors, who have never stopped believing that with hard work, honesty and self belief we can achieve everything we put our minds to.”
