At Pacific Ridge School the student’s Service Learning Group meets every week to find ways to raise money. During their freshman year, LAGSD G01 Elite players Skylar Enge and Laura Jones joined a Service Learning Group started by Skylar’s siblings, Derek and Sierra. Their group has been running for three years now and their partner charity is the very worthy Challenged Athletes Foundation (the Challenged Athletes Foundation raises money and collects donations to grant disabled athletes with the equipment needed for their sport).
This year Laura, Skylar and their service group held a FIFA tournament in aid of the Challenged Athletes Foundation. The group was able to grant a bike to Mike, a single leg amputee that lost his leg when he served in the army. Over the three years their group has been together they have raised a staggering $8,000.
Laura commented, “As athletes ourselves, we recognized that we were very fortunate to not need extra equipment, like a running leg or special wheelchair, in order to play the game we love.”
Skylar also proudly stated, “Meeting Mike and handing him his grant was such a memorable experience and something that we will never forget. We feel very privileged to be able to help.”
Well done guys, you are a tribute to your family, school and community!
