Day 1 – 03/20/15 – GU15 Elite Match Report

GU15 National League Report – Las Vegas

On a Blue Clear Sky in Las Vegas the Four Horsemen Road again, this time in the form the Carlsbad Elite GU15 team. In a key USYS National League game, the Carlsbad Girls represented our club proudly with a 1-0 victory over the number 4 ranked team in the nation, the Pennsylvania Strikers. This victory firmly positions Coach Carl Higham’s GU15, in 2nd place in the National League and continues their unbeaten streak.

The Carlsbad Girls applied pressure quickly in the game as Emelia Owen drove the ball up the field passing to Jaycee Johnson. With a few more passes, the ball found its way to Emily Knepler who shot a cracker just missing, 1 foot over the goal. Kayleigh Webb, continued the aerial assault with two long bullets, just going wide. This pressure eventually wore down the Strikers of Pennsylvania, as Kamy Hoban scored the game winning goal, connecting on a header from a direct kick by Sierra Enge. The defense remained steady holding off repeated attacks by the Pennsylvanians. Erin Sinai and Piper Wurth guarded the center of the field with the verocity of a Jaguar, while Jocelyn Panduro and Brooke Miller shutdown the sides to assist Ashley Seymour with her clean sheet. The Pennsylvanians had one good shot at goal that Ashley Seymour deflected in a diving save to her right. Later in the contest the Penn Strikers had a clear breakaway that was snuffed out by our lightning quick defender Erin Sina near the six. Claire Moore, Kacie Pou, and Nicole Mariano continued the offensive power in the 2nd half keeping the Strikers on their heels.

The Carlsbad Girls can punch their ticket to the National Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with a victory in their next game vs. Tennessee or with another loss by the Penn Strikers.
