Our 2002, 2001, 2000 and 1998 Elite girls teams all had Pre-Season Training Camp this past week. The girls spent Monday and Tuesday on the field working with Coach Courtney, Coach Brett, Coach Amy and Cheyne Gordan from Concordia University Irvine. After a great two days on the field, the girls then spent Wednesday and Thursday in the classroom working on the college recruitment process as well as receiving presentations on nutrition and injury prevention.
Girls Elite camp was capped off with a training camp down at Point Loma Nazarene University which also included our 2002, 2001 and 2000 Premier girls teams. The girls spent the weekend, 3 days and 2 nights, down at PLNU training 2-3 times a day.
LAGSD Girls College Liaison, Courtney Drummond, commented, “It has been a tremendous week for our players. Elite camp was fantastic. It was great to work with our Elite players and provide them with the tools to succeed both on and off the field, in all aspects of the game. To end the week at PLNU with both our older Elite and Premier teams was special. The girls had the opportunity to be trained by seven college coaches and ‘Speed To Burn’ (speed and agility).”
Coach Courtney continued, “It was just an awesome weekend. To see our players interact with the college coaches and adjust to different coaching styles was very rewarding. It was truly a collegiate experience. The girls ate, slept and breathed soccer together all weekend. I’m so happy we could provide this opportunity for our teams. All the coaches had great feedback regarding our players and we’re looking forward to seeing them at Surf Cup and Carlsbad Cup this weekend.”
