LA Galaxy San Diego celebrated the kickoff to the league season in a big way at the club’s annual Opening Day event on Sunday, September 10 at Poinsettia Park. Roughly 4,000 members took part in the day, helping the club raise over $25,000 dollars.
The event featured great support from local food vendors Bandit BBQ, BJ’s Restaurants, Cali Fresh Food, El Puerto Mexican Food, Everbowl, Kona Ice and That Pizza Place. School of Rock provided live entertainment, AVTV & Design hosted our first ever Opening Day NFL viewing area and Jump N’ Ride, Mindset Sports and Rady Children’s 360 Sports Medicine were also on site to help make the day more fun and festive for all who attended.
The coaches’ game did not disappoint, with the girls coaches prevailing 7-5 in the highest scoring match in recent history. Coach Carl netted the final goal off a PK after Coach Sean, who had just entered the game, committed a handball in the box.
Special thanks to all the competitive teams who gave up their day to run fun and creative game booths, to our recreational teams for providing an impressive 140 themed raffle baskets, and of course to all the parents and players who volunteered their time throughout the day to help make the event a success!
