LAGSD player Shelby Wray has been selected as one of two student athletes to receive the 2016-17 San Diego Union-Tribune Academic Athletes of the Year award.

In pursuing her athletic dreams, Shelby, who has a 4.48 GPA, practiced with some of our boys teams to improve her skills. She also traveled 350 miles round trip every weekend for more than a year to compete in an elite women’s soccer league to heighten her exposure. The Ivy League’s Cornell came calling after seeing Shelby play in a showcase in Las Vegas. She is undecided on her major but has an interest in criminal justice and envisions herself being an FBI agent.
