Congratulations to the Wave GU14 Black team for winning the Celtic Cup this past weekend.

Saturday was full of mixed emotions as they girls started well with a comfortable 2-1 win (Kacie Pou 1, Emma Bushee 1) over Scripts United but then suffered a shock defeat to NHB 1-0. Needing a performance Sunday morning, knowing only a win would take them to the final the girls bounced back and overcome Claremont Stars 1 nil with a hearty performance. It was far from a classic but a superb team goal finished off by the girl in form, Kacie Pou, was good enough to win the game.

That took the girls to the final against the home team, Celtic. With home advantage and huge home support it was always going to be difficult but from the first whistle there was only ever going to be one winner. The girls had saved the best until last and played some fantastic football. They fully deserved there 3-1 win (Kacie Pou 2, Ellie Colton 1). A great way to prepare for State Cup!

Coach Brad said, “The girls were fantastic, they showed great bounce-back-ability after Saturdays disappointing performance by producing to two first class performances on Sunday. It’s great to take home the trophy but the most important thing is that the girls are better players now than what they were Saturday, that’s what this team is all about.”
